Pat: V. Irai Anbu, Tourism and Culture Secretary, felicitating K.K. Narmada, a national-level table-tennis player and a student of Lady Willington Government Higher Secondary School, at the school’s annual day celebrations in Chennai on Tuesday. CHENNAI: Students must look beyond academics and get themselves acquainted with a wide range of subjects and hobbies that would instil in them a sense of confidence, according to V. Irai Anbu, Secretary, Department of Tourism and Culture. Addressing the annual day celebrations of Lady Willington Government Higher Secondary School here on Tuesday, he said youngsters must look at failures as an opportunity to improve themselves and strengthen their minds. Drawing parallel from the lives of celebrities, he said many personalities who had brought about change in the lives of millions had overcome worst defeats in life. They worked on their weaknesses to do better. He urged the students to take time off their academics to observe nature and relish its splendour. “These are the most important things that add beauty to the life. Our lives do not revolve around grades. One can learn as much from people as from books. Talk to people and spend time with nature,” he said. K.K. Narmada, a student of the school who won several national level table-tennis tournaments was felicitated. Chief Educational Officer M. Palanisamy and principal T. Rajeshwari spoke. A variety entertainment programme by the students followed the function.
