Government moves to end NIMS strike
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: With services in the premier medical institution, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) remaining badly hit by the 25-day-old strike by 1200-strong paramedics, nurses and technicians, the government on Tuesday offered to implement 6th PRC pay scales prospectively from April 1, 2009.
The striking employees have been demanding the implementation of the 6th PRC pay scales, on par with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), retrospectively from January 1, 2006 for all employees across-the-board from Class-IV staff to faculty members.
The government’s offer was made at a meeting convened by Principal Secretary (health) J. Satyanarayana with Director, NIMS D.Prasada Rao and the JAC, spearheading the agitation.
However, the JAC is unlikely to accept the offer. It’s co-convenor P.Rajkumar said the Joint Action Committe would hold a general body meeting on Wednesday to consider the offer.
Writ petition
Legal Correspondent adds: The State government informed a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice A.R. Dave and Justice A.R. Ranganadhan that it would report back about the steps taken regarding the strike in NIMS.
