St. Bede’s ‘A’ emerges champion

CHENNAI: St. Bede’s ‘A’ lifted the B. Somasundaram Trophy, defeating PSBB ‘A’ (K.K. Nagar) by eight wickets in the final of the TNCA city schools under-14 cricket tournament here at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday.

Batting first, PSBB was bowled out for 126 in 49.2 overs. R. Akash top-scored with 39, while M. Shahrukh Khan claimed three wickets for 20 runs. Shahrukh Khan then guided St. Bede’s chase, making an unbeaten 44 as his side won with 59 balls to spare. R. Aravind Raj batted well for St. Bede’s, scoring 44.

K. Mohan, chairman, schools and colleges committee, TNCA, gave away the trophy and certificates.

The scores:

PSBB ‘A’ (K.K. Nagar) 126 in 49.2 overs (R. Akash 39, M. Shahrukh Khan three for 20) lost to St. Bede’s ‘A’ 127 for two in 40.1 overs (R. Aravind Raj 44, M. Shahrukh Khan 44 n.o).

Prashanth, Naveen shine

Prashanth (five for 18) and Naveen (54 not out) enabled SRM University beat Hindustan by seven wickets in the A.C. Muthiah Rolling Trophy engineering colleges cricket tournament held here on Tuesday.

The scores:

Sathyabama 150 for eight in 20 overs (Abhishek 29, Vikram 63, Raul 35, Sakthi Kamal three for 20) bt College of Engg. (Guindy) 132 in 19.5 overs (Sri Ram 34, S. Manoraj 30, Gim Joy three for 16).

Eswari 132 for three in 20 overs (K. Vidhyuth 38, Mukunth 26) bt Rajalakshmi 87 in 16.1 overs (Praveen 40, Kiran three for 14).

Hindustan 100 for nine in 20 overs (Prashanth five for 18) lost to SRM University 102 for three in 13.4 overs (Naveen 54 not out).

Vignesh bowls well

K. Vignesh’s five for 13 was instrumental in Ebenezer Marcus CA defeating Velammal (Surapet) by 117 runs in the Velammal under-14 cricket tournament being held here.

The scores:

Ebenezer Marcus CA 149 for seven in 30 overs (S. Harish Babu 38) bt Velammal 32 in 13.2 overs (K. Vignesh five for 13).

Audhi Chetty CA 186 in 29.5 overs (Swaminathan 27, Santhosh 28) bt Danish CA 153 in 29.4 overs (K. Akash 44, K.R. Praveen Raja 40 not out).

Hat-trick by Praveen

Praveen Kumar’s hat-trick helped North Zone to a 4-1 win over East Zone in the all-India FCI inter-zonal hockey tournament here on Tuesday.

Other results: West Zone 1 (Irfan Ali) bt South Zone 0; Headquarters 4 (Praveen Kumar 3, Jai Bhagwan) bt East Zone 1 (Sudir Minz).

SRM claims title

SRM University won the State-level ball badminton tournament, conducted by Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, with a comfortable 29-9, 29-15 victory over College of Engineering (Guindy) in the final.

SRM was represented by Venkala Rao, Thangaraj, Sanavas, Prabhakaran and Satish.

In the semifinals, SRM beat defending champion St. Joseph’s College of Engineering 8-29, 29-19, 29-12.

Lady Andal wins

Lady Andal emerged triumphant in the inter-school under-10 football tournament, organised by Asan Memorial SSS, at its school premises here recently. SBOA School and Junior College finished second. Host Asan came third.

Bridge tournament

Mylapore Club will conduct the 32nd N. Ramaratnam memorial bridge tournament on February 21 and 22 at the Club premises. Players from all over India are expected to take part.
