Karthik, Ojha leave for Mumbai to join team

VISAKHAPATNAM: Dinesh Karthik of Tamil Nadu, who cracked a breezy unbeaten ton on Tuesday in the K.S. Subbaiah Pillai Trophy South Zone one-day tournament here, and Hyderabad spinner Pragyan Ojha, left for Mumbai on Monday night to join the Indian team that will proceed on a tour to New Zealand.

Karthik is in the Indian team for all the three versions of the game.

Ojha is in the one-day squad and had to leave for New Zealand as the ODIs would be held first.

Two other Tamil Nadu players, pacer L. Balaji and batsman M. Vijay, who are in the Test squad would be with the team till the end of the Subbaiah Pillai Trophy.

India discard and Kerala pacer S. Sreesanth, who was injured in his right hand in the first match on Sunday, has gone back home.

The tournament resumes on Wednesday after a day’s rest.

Srikrishna hits century

Junior Andhra player P. Srikrishna’s 103 (7x4) was the highlight of the LEM Stars XI’s 156-run victory over New Cricket Club in the Guntur DCA ‘A’ division cricket league at Guntur on Tuesday.

In another match, Khadir XI, powered by an unbeaten hundred by Bharat, posted a ten-wicket win over Riders XI.

The scores:

LEM Stars XI 281 for seven in 35 overs (P. Srikrishna 103, Irfan 73) bt New Cricket Club 125 in 28 overs.

Riders XI 139 in 30 overs lost to Khadir XI 140 for no loss in 15 overs (Bharat 100 n.o.).

MN XI records win

MN XI defeated Makineni Basavapunnaiah XI by 11 runs while Kattamalli XI scored a four-wicket win over Cricket Association of Nuzvid in the Krishna DCA ‘B’ division cricket league in Vijayawada on Tuesday.

The scores:

MN XI 167 in 40.3 overs (Somasekhar four for 34) bt MBP XI 156 in 34.3 overs.

CAN (Nuzvid) 92 in 25.4 overs lost to Kattamalli XI 93 for six in 17.1 overs.

Taj Deccan posts win

Taj Deccan recorded a three-wicket win over Ella Suites in the inter-hotels cricket tournament in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The scores: Ella Suites 83 lost to Taj Deccan 84 for seven; Belsons Taj 91 lost to Taj Banjara 92 for nine.
