MRPS activists lay siege to Collector’s office

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: Hundreds of Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) activists laid siege to the Collector’s office here on Thursday as part of their Statewide agitation for categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SCs). The agitators took employees by surprise by locking the entrance gate and tied big banners highlighting their demand for categorisation.

However, the police, who rushed to the spot, broke the lock amidst some resistance by the MRPS cadres.

Heated arguments ensued between the MRPS leaders, who included district president K. Syam Babu and the police as the latter questioned with what authority did the agitators lock Collectorate gate.

Additional police forces were mobilised as the MRPS continued its agitation. They raised slogans against Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy blaming him for the delay in categorisation of SCs which has been a long-pending demand.
