Inflation eases further
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: After a gap of over 14 months, the rate of inflation eased further to 3.92 per cent for the week ended February 7 from 4.39 per cent in the previous week, mainly on account of a fall in the prices of primary articles and manufactured products.
In its analysis of the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) data, the Finance Ministry pointed out that the current rate of inflation was the lowest since the 3.8 per cent recorded in the week ended December 29, 2007. “Commodity group-wise examination shows that the decrease in overall inflation in the current week is the outcome of fall in inflation rates in both primary articles and manufactured products,” it said. There is a general expectation is that the Reserve Bank of India would soon go in for another round of cuts in its key policy rates.
