Struggle for land to be intensified: Janu

A Correspondent

Sixth anniversary of Muthanga stir was observed at Mananthavadi on Thursday.

C.K. Janu

KALPETTA: President of the Kerala Adivasi Gothra Maha Sabha C.K. Janu has said the struggle of the tribal people for land will be intensified.

Ms. Janu was inaugurating the sixth anniversary of the Muthanga tribal agitation and Jogi commemoration day organised by the Sabha at Mananthavadi on Thursday. She said a mass agitation would be launched against the anti-tribal policies of the government.

Ms. Janu claimed that the Muthanga agitation was a great gain for the tribal people as it could draw the attention of the ruling class on tribal issues. Though the government had made a lot of promises at the time of the election, even the fundamental rights of the tribal people had been denied after the election, she alleged.

She said the rulers of the State were acting as real estate brokers and the decision of the government on the Aralam farm issue proved it.

K.K. Narayanan, general secretary, Kerala State Vattuva Maha Sabha; P. Padmanabhan, president, Kerala State Pattika Jana Samajam, and M. Geethanandan, co-ordinator, Bhooparishkarana Samithy, spoke.

Cultural meet

A cultural meeting was held at the Gandhi Park at Mananthavadi to mark the occasion.

It was inaugurated by Punnala Sreekumar, general secretary, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Joint Committee.

A Gothra puja was held at Thakarappadi, near Muthanga, at 8 a.m. prior to the programmes at Mananthavadi.
