BJP seeks enhanced compensation for farmers

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: State general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party L.Ganesan has urged the State government to sanction Rs.40,000 per acre to all farmers affected by pollution along the Noyyal river.

In a statement on Thursday, Mr.Ganesan pointed out that the committee headed by retired High Court Judge Bhaskaran, which assessed the impact of the pollution, had recommended compensation of Rs.40,000.

Instead of paying this, Revenue authorities were paying Rs.500 to Rs.14,000 per acre.
