16 killed as van rams tree

BELLARY: Sixteen persons, including eight women and a child, were killed and five injured when a van in which they were travelling rammed a tree on National Highway 63 in the Kuditini police station limits, about 10 km from Bellary, on Thursday.
They were from Nidagundi and Hosahalli in the Ron taluk of Gadag district and Shirur village in Bagalkot district.
They were on their way to attend the marriage of a relative in Bellary.
Head injuries
The cause was not immediately known. Most of those who died had suffered head injuries and multiple fractures.
