Tuticorin Corporation gets Rs.90 lakh

Replacement of pipeline near Pudukottai old bridge will be taken up at a cost of

Rs. 40 lakh


Tuticorin: Mayor R. Kasthuri Thangam said the Government had sanctioned Rs.90 lakh to the Tuticorin Corporation for the year 2008-2009 for two works.

Addressing the council meeting here on Friday, she said replacement of the pipeline near Pudukottai old bridge would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh.

The Mayor said the Government had also allotted an additional amount of Rs. 50 lakh towards construction of a new corporation office building.

The Corporation had approved for establishment of an open drainage at Anna Nagar at a cost of Rs.25 lakh to prevent stagnation of rainwater in residential areas.

A sum of Rs.30 lakh was sanctioned for making arrangements to supply water in 29 public toilets.

An approval for Rs.12 lakh was made for carrying out earth and road improvement works for a stretch of a kilometre.

Later, a tender was floated for purchase of a mobile van, fully equipped with computer facility, at a cost of Rs.15 lakh, for detection of water leak in pipelines.

J. Thommai Jesuadiyan, Deputy Mayor, R. Lakshmi, Commissioner of Corporation, and S.A. Rajagopal, Executive Engineer, were present.
