Genome Foundation to screen rural people

HYDERABAD: Roche Diagnostics India Pvt. Ltd will donate and provide equipment/kits at reduced rates to the city-based Genome Foundation for screening various genetic disorders in rural centres to be set up across the country. The foundation is a non-profit organisation with the objective of creating awareness on genetic diseases, particularly among rural people and clinicians, as also provide genetic analysis services at affordable rates.

A memorandum of understanding for collaboration between the two organisations was signed by Lalji Singh, director of the foundation, and Roche Diagnostics CMD Bhuwnesh Agrawal at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology here on Friday. Dr. Singh, who is CCMB director, said the foundation’s national centre would be set up at Medipally, in Ranga Reddy, here, on a 4.18 acre site, with an investment of Rs.5 crore.
