VIZIANAGARAM: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday lashed out at the TRS and the Left parties for opposing Polavaram project and Jalayagnam project in general and adopting a negative stance while his Government was focussed at overall development. About 45 minutes behind schedule on his road show, he addressed people near Hoogly Jute Mills on the outskirts of Bobbili and wondered a ‘grand alliance’ of political parties with different ideology could fulfil its promises. After unveiling a bronze statue of Vasireddy Krishna Murthy Naidu, he recalled his focus on irrigation projects and said people could reap the fruits of Jalayagnam only if they vote Congress to power. Dr. Reddy also took a dig at Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi, asking him what he had done for his native Mogalturu, even after earning crores of rupees as a film actor. How could he do justice for the eight crore people of the State?, he asked. The narrow roads and by-lanes of the town were jam-packed; residents along the route came out of their homes and greeted Dr. Reddy. Enthusiastic crowds with Congress flags in their hands were seen running along side the convoy. Stone laidLater, Dr. Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 79.99 crore Thotapalli branch canal project near Manapuram shandy, that envisages an ayacut of 15,000 acres in 44 villages of Garividi, Gurla, Merakamudidam, Dattirajeru and Gajapathinagaran mandals in the district. He addressed meetings near the Government Hospital where he inaugurated a Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric & Neonatal Care (CEMONC) Centre, at Balijipeta road junction and opposite the Bobbili Fort. The road show was not without interruptions at two places where jute mill workers affiliated to the Centre for Indian Trade Unions and Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi activists displayed placards to draw his attention to their demands. Dr. Reddy assured MRPS leaders of all assistance and informed them that he had been putting his efforts seriously to meet their demand.
