Angry lot: Members of Periyar Dravida Kazhagam staging a protest in Coimbatore on Friday demanding closure of income tax office alleging that the Indian Government was rendering military help to Sri Lanka against the Sri Lankan Tamils using the tax revenue. Coimbatore: More than 80 activists of Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam were removed by the police when they attempted to march towards the Income Tax office on Race Course Road in protest against the supply of arms to Sri Lanka by the Government of India. CondemnationPDK had called for an agitation to condemn the Government of India for providing military and logistical assistance to Sri Lanka in the ongoing ethnic war. MarchThe activists who marched from Arts College Junction raised slogans against the Government of India and Sri Lankan President and demanded that the income tax office should be closed. They accused the Centre of using the tax revenue of Tamilians to provide arms for the genocide in Sri Lanka. A posse of police reinforcements led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), East, K. Gopalasami prevented them from marching towards the Income Tax office and removed them.
