HYDERABAD: In a unique decision, the Osmania University (OU) has announced that it would be providing feedback boxes in all classrooms of the campus colleges from the next academic year to obtain reactions, suggestions and even complaints from students. Vice-Chancellor T. Tirupati Rao said the objective behind providing such feedback boxes was to have a regular interaction with the students and understand their needs and aspirations. “It would help both the students and the university,” he pointed out. Students can express their views on topics ranging from course curriculum to basic requirements and even lodge complaints over the teaching methodology being followed by their faculty. And based on their views and suggestions, the university would take up remedial measures, he promised at a press conference here on Friday. “It is not necessary that students should mention their name in the suggestions or complaint slips. They just have to put them inside the feedback boxes and we will take care of the rest,” said Mr. Rao. Emphasis was laid on research studies and introducing more courses, including degree and diploma in the last one year, he said. The five-year integrated course in Master of Science (Chemistry), M. Sc Computational Geophysics and M.Sc Nano Science were some of the post graduate courses introduced this year. Students admitted to M.Sc Nano Science are also awarded scholarship of Rs. 3,000 per month. ‘Excellence status’The university will also establish five modular labs with the latest equipment for five life sciences departments at the Central Facility Building within four months, he said. OU is also going to seek the University with Potential for Excellence status this year. Along with OU, eight other universities across the country have been short-listed under the category. “If we get the status, there would be more grants to improve our research studies,” he said. OU Registrar Y.C. Venudhar was also present.
