Problems being faced by people of Gajanur aired Farm implements, pesticides distributed
Beneficiary: A woman receiving the pension certificate from Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey at the Janaspandana programme held at Gajanur near Shimoga on Saturday. SHIMOGA: Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey said here on Saturday that the main intention of Janaspandana programme was to bridge the gap between people and officials. He was speaking after inaugurating a Janaspandana programme organised under the aegis of the district administration, Department of Information, Shimoga Zilla Panchayat, Gajanur Gram Panchayat and other departments at the Government Higher Primary School at Gajanur, about 12 km from here. He said that the programme was unique as people’s problems could be solved on the spot. It would give people an opportunity to share their problems directly with district-level officials and get information about government programmes. Mr. Pandey said that people could avail themselves of benefits of government programmes such as Sandhya Suraksha, Bhagyalakshmi, Madilu, old-age pension and honorarium to the physically challenged without any interference of middlemen. He called upon residents of the village to participate in exhibition and health camps organised in rural areas. Chairman of the Shimoga Zilla Panchayat Standing Committee on Social Justice Prem Kumar, who inaugurated an exhibition, informed the Deputy Commissioner about problems being faced by people of Gajanur and asked him about development programmes to be taken up in the village. Superintendent of Police S. Murugan asked the people to make best use of facilities provided by the Government and assured them that the Police Department was prepared to respond to their problems. In-charge Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat Hemachandra said that Rs. 5 crore was being spent for taking up projects under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the district, and Rs. 3 lakh of the amount had been reserved for the gram panchayat. Beneficiaries of government welfare programmes were given agricultural implements and pesticides on the occasion. Gajanur Gram Panchayat president Sharifa Bi, vice-president Satish, Assistant Commissioner Nagaraj, taluk panchayat executive officer Jayakumar and other district-level officers were present.
