BERHAMPUR: Kandhamal district police are yet to unearth the motive and culprits behind the murder of Hrudananda Nayak (44), whose body was located in mutilated condition in a forest near Rudangia on Thursday. But the alleged murder has become a cause of worry and tension for the administration and police as Nayak a resident of Rudangia happened to be a Christian. When contacted on Saturday evening the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kandhamal Praveen Kumar said till now they had not got any major clue regarding the motive behind this alleged murder. The culprits had also not been identified. But he was confident that they would be able to solve the case. He did not accept the allegations that this murder had communal reasons with the plea that the investigation was on. FIR filedHrudananda was killed due to injury to his head. But the FIR filed by the mother of the victim has put the police in a fix. Prasanna Kumari Nayak, the mother of Hrudananda has alleged that the communal elements involved in communal riots in the area last year were behind the killing of her son. The police and administration are taking this investigation seriously as the elections are drawing near and there is ample presence of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in the area. During the riots that followed the killing of VHP leaders at Jalaspeta, around 38 persons were killed in the Kandhamal district last year. But at times murders due to other reasons are also getting termed as communal violence in the district. The Congress Sevadal president of kandhamal district Yuvraj Digal was went missing in December last and it was alleged that communal miscreants had murdered him. After a month the murder mystery was solved. He was found to be murdered for past business rivalry. Police are not ruling out similar situation in Hrudananda’s murder.
