Gold for Kalyani

VISAKHAPATNAM: K. Kalyani of Andhra University claimed the 60 kg category gold medal in powerlifting on Saturday in the all-India inter-university championships being held here.

S. Yamini of Andhra University won the 63 kg category gold in weightlifting.

The results:

Powerlifting: women: 60 kg: 1. K. Kalyani (AU squat 135 kg, bench press 45 kg, dead lift 130 kg and total 310 kg); 2. Kamaljeet Kaur (Punjab Uni. Patiala, 110, 57.5, 135, 302.5); 3. Rajvinder Kaur (Punjab, 11, 60, 110, 285).

56 kg: 1. Manisha Pawar (CCS, Meerut, 140, 60, 155 and 355); 2. Thushara Philip (Kannur, 120, 65, 160 and 345), 3. Roshini Chaudhuri (Dr. Ambedkar, Agra, 137.5, 65, 130 and 332.5).

Weightlifting: 63 kg: 1. S. Yamini (AU, snatch 84 kg, clean and jerk 108 kg and total 192 kg); 2. Sunita Rani (Punjab, 80, 95 and 175); 3. Veerpal Kaur (GND, Amritsar 72, 80 and 152). — Special Correspondent
