Kolkata shopping malls, multiplexes told to tighten security

Staff Reporter

KOLKATA: City police commissioner Goutam Mohan Chakrabarti on Saturday urged shopping malls and multiplexes to tighten security.

Citing instances in Israel, U.S., Sweden and Finland, he said terror groups always considered these places “soft targets.”

Addressing a seminar on “Developing and Managing an Anti-Terror outlook in large and semi-large Retail Establishments,” organised by the INOX Leisure Limited (Eastern region), Mr. Chakrabarti said: “Though some security measures have been taken by the malls and multiplexes in the city, we are not very happy with the arrangements. There should be a better and stronger security plan to ensure safety.”

He stressed the need for regular emergency mock drills to prepare the staff of malls and multiplexes for emergencies.
