KOLKATA: It is going to be India versus Bangladesh in the final of the LG all-India amateur golf championship on Sunday. Carrying the Indian tri-colour would be Abhishek Jha of Bangalore, who is not only eyeing his third straight win on the tour, but would also be trying to stop the National title going to Bangladesh’s Shakhawat H. Shohel in the 36-hole play-off at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club. Jha stopped local player Akshay Butta 3 & 2. Shohel got the better of the experienced Manav Das 6 & 4 in the semifinals on Saturday. Butta started with a bogey on the first and although a fine tee shot on the par-3 second evened out things, he never showed the kind of form that helped him reach so far. In contrast, Jha looked in complete control despite the vociferous crowd support for Butta. No chanceIn the other semifinal, Shohel stamped his authority and never gave Das any chance. He was 4-up after eight holes before Das won his first hole on the par-4 ninth. Shohel did not let his guard down and came right back with an eagle on the 10th as his second shot from the middle of the fairway landed short of the pin and climbed into the hole. A poor tee-shot from Das on the 14th brought the curtains down on his hopes of winning the all-India title for the second time. The results: Abhishek Jha bt Akshay Butta 3 & 2; Shakhawat S. Shohel bt Manav Das 6 & 4.
