Ultimate foodie lands in police net

Bangalore: His love for chicken biryani spurred him on to steal vehicles, something the police discovered after they arrested him at Doddaballapur. The police recovered 52 stolen two-wheelers, worth Rs. 24 lakh from Narasimha Murthy (28), a resident of Ranganahalli village of Madugiri taluk in Tumkur.

The police said Murthy had stolen the vehicles from Bangalore city and the surroundings of Doddaballapur, lifting them from the vicinity of houses, banks and hotels, by using fake keys. He would sell them for Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 15,000.

During the investigation, Murthy told the police he was addicted to chicken biryani and whenever he ran out of money, he just stole a vehicle and sold it, Bangalore Rural Superintendent of Police B.A. Mahesh told presspersons here on Saturday.

The accused would also ride to dhabas on stolen bikes to feast on biryani. One of his ploys was to say he had forgotten to bring money and leave the bike as collateral.

Heroin seized, two held

Customs officials on Saturday apprehended two persons, including a woman, and recovered heroin worth Rs. 2 crore in Koramangala. The accused were sending the narcotic to South Africa. The officials detained Daffi (26) of Shillong and Bertrand, a Nigerian national, while they were in the branch of a courier company trying to despatch the parcel containing 2.5 kg heroin.

However, the customs officials are yet to register a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act with the Koramangala police.
