dated February 23, 1959: Pakistan firing on border

One Indian woman in village Ulukandi, eight miles from Karimganj, was seriously injured in Pakistani machine-gun firing from across the border on February 21, according to official reports. In the recent Pakistani firings, five Indian villagers have been injured. Pakistani forces opened heavy machine-gun firing on Hartakitilla in Patharia Hills and clusters of more than 25 Indian border villages, Pakistani firings started without provocation seventeen days ago in this sector, and have surpassed all previous records, according to official estimation.
