dated February 23, 1959: First “woman postman”

The first “woman postman” in Madras Postal Circle – perhaps India itself – has joined her duties in the Trivandrum Medical College Post Office. Mrs. K. Pankajakshi Amma, who was working as a branch post-master at Cheruvikkal, sat for a departmental test and came out successful. From the extra-departmental cadre of branch postmaster, she has now become a regular member of the postal staff and is appointed as a “postman.”
