DIP IN VALUE, QUANTITY: Pepper kept for sale at a retail outlet in Kochi. Exports of pepper from the country during the first nine months of the current fiscal dropped both in terms of quantity and value to 19,100 tonnes valued at Rs.317.77 crore from 27,580 tonnes (Rs.400.20 crore) last year. Low inventory in major international markets due to the economic recession is cited as the reason for the decline in exports.
