Good show: The victorious Sathyabama University basketball team in Tiruchi on Sunday. TIRUCHI: The popularity of inter-collegiate centenary tournament, conducted by St. Joseph’s College, grows every passing year as winning the title is considered prestigious by participating teams.The basketball event in the centenary tournament, which concluded here on Sunday, saw the participation of colleges from various parts of the State. Sathyabama University, with an all-win record in the semi-final league bagged the title. Host St. Joseph’s had to settle for the fourth place. “Some of the top teams took part in the tournament. Every side gave its best in pursuit of top honour,” said the Physical Education Director of the host college M. Kasi. Sports and Games Co-ordinator, St. Joseph’s College Rev. Fr. Jayaseelan gave away the prizes. Rector Rev. S. Lazar, Secretary Rev. A. Joseph and Principal Rev. R. Rajarathinam commended the winners. Ball badminton beginsMeanwhile, the ball badminton event, which got off to a start here on Sunday, has also attracted participation from good number of teams. The finals will be played on Monday evening.
