Kochi: The Indian Linux Users’ Group (I-LUG), Kochi chapter’s meeting on Sunday, targeting the teaching community, turned out to be an interactive event between teachers and members of the forum. Held at Jay’s Internet Club that nestles in a quiet corner in the Broadway Enclave, the meeting had free software users, students, professionals and teachers participating with zeal. A customary reiteration of the philosophy of free software and GNU movement and a few points on what set it apart from ‘open source software’ kicked off the discussions. As the meeting came close on the heels of the release of Debian 5.0 ‘Lenny’, the group divided into two and while one group took to learning a point or two on installation of Debian 5.0, the group comprising teachers attended a technical presentation on command line applications and shell scripting. The session had teachers sharing their experience of using free software with I-LUG members.
