VISAKHAPATNAM: Cutting across political lines, leaders were all praise for the commitment and courage of conviction of the city’s first Mayor and former MLA N.S.N. Reddy at the unveiling of his statue at the Gandhi Park near the Municipal Corporation on Sunday.

Senior BJP leader P.V. Chalapathi Rao said he always went ahead with the task he set for himself if he was convinced it was good irrespective of criticism. He sank a number of bore wells to overcome the water scarcity in the city. He directly participated in the agitations for the steel plant and the nationalisation of bus services.

MP T. Subbarami Reddy described him as the first and the best Mayor. He stayed away from controversies and was spiritually inclined. Former MP M.V.V.S. Murthy said people would remember his services for long. His views were progressive and he always had people’s welfare at heart.

People’s Mayor

The idea of installing the statues of great personalities was first mooted by him and it was appropriate that his statue was being installed close to the corporation.

Commercial Taxes Minister Konathala Ramakrishna said because of his selfless services several leaders attended the unveiling function cutting across party lines. Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao described him as people’s Mayor. MLAs Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, S. Ranga Raju and T.
