NEW DELHI: Defending champion Viswanathan Anand outplayed China’s Wang Yue in 34 moves to stay within half-a-point of leaders Levon Aronian and Alexander Grischuk after four rounds of the Linares chess tournament at Linares, Spain, on Sunday. Anand’s second victory in four days raised his tally to 2.5 points. Aronian defeated Leinier Dominguez Perez in a 92-move marathon after Grischuk tamed Teimour Radjabov in 41 moves to reach three points. Anand was an easy winner of this Slav Defence game. Wang Yue allowed Anand an open file on the queen’s side early in the game. Anand attacked with his pair of rooks, drove the rival king into the open and later won a bishop to force Wang Yue’s resignation. The action will resume after a day of rest. The results (fourth round): Viswanathan Anand (2.5) bt Wang Yue (Chn, 1); Levon Aronian (Arm, 3) bt Leinier Dominguez Perez (Cub, 1.5); Magnus Carlsen (Nor, 2) drew with Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 2); Teimour Radjabov (Aze, 1) lost to Alexander Grischuk (Rus, 3).
