Hidayat confirms participation

HYDERABAD: Former Olympic gold medallist, Taufik Hidayat, confirmed his participation in the $1,20,000 Yonex Sunrise India Grand Prix Gold badminton championship to be held in Hyderabad from March 24 to 29, according to Pullela Gopi Chand, India’s chief national coach and member of the organising committee.

Gopi said that the 27-year-old Hidayat, who once clocked his smash at 305 kmph for a world record, had formally intimated to the organisers in an official communication.

For the record, Hidayat, who withdrew from the India Open held in the city last April in the wake of bomb blasts, is also a former world champion and six-time Indonesian Open champion.
