CPI(M) leader’s wife, daughter set ablaze

HOOGHLY: The minor daughter of a local CPI(M) leader died and his wife sustained severe burns when unidentified assailants set fire to them in his house in this district, police said on Monday.

One person has been detained for questioning for breaking into the house of Loncho Mandi and setting his wife Jharna Mand (23) and daughter Sumana Mandi on fire after pouring kerosene over them on Sunday. Mr. Mandi is a member of the Gobar Ara Gram Panchayat Samiti in the Dhaniakhali block. The local CPI(M) unit alleged that the assailants belonged to the local group.
