Special Correspondent

Says Karunanidhi has lost control over the State administration

Jayalalithaa

CHENNAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa has demanded dissolution of the Assembly and resignation of Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi as “he had lost control over the State administration.”

In a statement here on Monday, Ms.Jayalaithaa said the Chief Minister’s announcement that he would go on a fast if the police and lawyers did not sink their differences, showed that he had no control over the police force. She wanted to know who was the root cause for the attack on advocates and who would compensate those injured in the police attack and pay compensation for the cars damaged by police. What action had been initiated against the police, she asked.

‘Irresponsible statement’

Reacting to her statement, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S.Arumugham said Ms.Jayalalithaa had no locus standi to demand the resignation of the Chief Minister, who was known for her ‘irresponsible statement.’ People would not have forgotten her statements against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, former Deputy Prime Minister L.K.Advani, and Sonia Gandhi. Her dream of coming back to power would not succeed as people were well aware of her designs, he said.
