Woodgate, CEO, Institute of Financial Accountants, U.K., at a lecture arranged by Loyola College in Chennai on Tuesday. CHENNAI: The Institute of Financial Accountants, a 90-year-old professional body based in the United Kingdom, is planning to start training courses in India. The IFA already has members and offers programmes in 80 countries. Its president David M. Hunt and chief executive David R. Woodgate are now in India, scouting for a local partner for running courses. They have met representatives of the government and the commerce and accounting departments of well-known colleges, besides holding informal discussions with members of Indian professional bodies like the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. They also plan to meet software developers in Bangalore to explore ways of developing online courses. “Our qualifications are for anyone, but will especially meet the need in the SME market,” said Mr. Woodgate, addressing Loyola College students at the Prof. A.G. Soundararajan Memorial Lecture on Tuesday. “It also makes students more marketable in a global workplace,” he said. The IFA’s qualifications were recognised in 80 countries and could give Indian immigrants an edge in the profession, he said.
