HYDERABAD: Blame it on security threat or on the efforts of Ranga Reddy District Collectorate. The result is that all the morning walkers at the sprawling Saroornagar Stadium in the city will have to shell a monthly fee - though definitely on the lower side - of Rs. 60 per month. This was the surprise which greeted many walkers a few days ago when the District Sports Development Officer Harinath, who is the in-charge of the venue, dutifully implemented the orders from the top. Reason? Primarily on security grounds in the wake of increasing threat and this will also in the process help the stadium authorities weed out the unwanted, anti-social elements who have been lining up at the stadium and posing a nuisance value, it is said. “The registration fee is Rs. 160 and the monthly fee is Rs. 60,” confirms the DSDO. And, this is the not the first time that a stadium authority is charging fee from the morning walkers. Given the health consciousness level , the response to the fees collection to the morning walkers did not dampen their spirit. For about 250 walkers have already registered with the DSDO at Saroornagar. “There was no dissenting voice and many of them actually felt it was a sensible move,” he says. Even former India football captain Victor Amalraj doesn’t find fault with this move. “There has to be a mechanism to let people inside any sporting venue,” he argues.
