Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Tuesday arrested an Assistant Engineer and Revenue Supervisor of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board on charges of taking bribe.
According to DVAC sources, R. Suresh Kumar of Iyyappanthangal had lodged a complaint with the Deputy Superintendent of Police, K. Ponnuchamy, that the Assistant Engineer of Iyyappanthangal, K. Gajendran (43), had demanded a bribe of Rs. 7,000 to restore a connection that was disconnected for non-payment of penalty.
A special team formed to investigate the case went to the office of the Assistant Engineer with official witnesses. When Suresh Kumar offered the bribe money, Gajendran asked him to give it to Revenue Supervisor, C.T. Thiagarajan. Soon after the latter took the money, police arrested the duo.
The accused were produced in a Tiruvallur court for remand, the sources added.
