Dhathri - Treading a path of innovation in herbal care

Spell the name Ayurveda and the first thing that comes to one’s mind is that of authenticity. Over the years, this ancient system of medicine has come to be recognized as one that possesses immense healing powers. And for Dr Sajikumar who comes from a family of traditional Ayurveda physicians, spearheading a more meaningful research into the resourcefully-rich sphere of Ayurveda was just like duck that took to water.

And each time when he delved deep into the wisdom world of Ayurveda, Dr Sajikumar surfaced with magical results. And one such result gave birth to the highly result-oriented Dhathri. Today, Dhathri is one of the herbal products with the highest brand visibility in Kerala. And now, the relentless research and quest for innovation has brought Dr Sajikumar to the concept of ABS Clinics, yet another unique concept to have hit the realm of Ayurveda in recent years.

The recently launched Dhathri ABS Clinics, according to him, are all set to change the perception of herbal health care in India. “Generally Malayalis are a lot who consume a longer period to take anyone into confidence.”, feels Dr Sajikumar. He is also of the opinion that this is all the more true in the case of Ayurvedic products as, for them; there are more claims in the market than results.

For close to five generations Dr Sajikumar’s family are engaged in the field of rendering herbal remedy.Dr Sajikumar has been in the forefront of Ayurveda treatment for the last one and half decades. “My grandfather had taught us to always go beyond the textbooks and this has been our inspiration all through”.

The service division is managed by Dhatri Ayurveda Kendra and has centres at Kayamkulam, Varkala and Guruvayur in addition to Abs clinics in Trivandrum as well as in Cochin.

“Right from the beginning, I wanted to launch a product that’s result oriented and can instill confidence among the users. And thus, Dhathri was born after making hectic research for several months at a stretch”, recalls Dr Sajikumar. In fact, Dhathri hair oil was the first product to be launched by Warrier’s Hospital & Panchakarma Centre under a specific brand name.

The young and dynamic Dr Sajikumar is a man with a strong penchant for research and he is constantly in pursuit of knowledge. And it’s this element that sets him apart from the rest of the physicians in his genre. “The herbal formulation of the hair oil existed in our family and I made some thorough research before branding it”, he says.

No wonder then that all the formulations that were brought into the market under the stewardship of Dr Sajikumar went on to become runaway hits in the market.

The instant success of Dhathri hail oil prompted Dr Sajikumar to venture into similar segments like skin care in a big way that too with good R&D support. Today, Dhathri has around twenty varieties of herbal products in its kitty majority of which are related to skin and hair care. “We arrive at the formulations after making thorough research and each one of them is developed by our well-experienced research wing under my personal guidance”, reveals Dr Sajikumar. Needless to say, Dhathri has a well-equipped in-house R&D division and each time the products are launched in the market after stringent QC screening. All our products undergo toxicity study and effectiveness study, adds he. “We have launched Dhathri ABS as part of diversification because beauty care is something that’s closely related to the confidence level of every individual”, says Dr Sajikumar. A well-trained team comprising physician, body composition analyzer, dietician, beautician and cosmetologist work behind every Dhathri ABS Clinic.

The first Dhathri ABS Clinic was opened at Thiruvananthapuram during September 2008 while the Kochi centre was opened during November 2008. Dhathri is coming out with its ABS Clinic at Kottayam during the first half of March 2009. In the near future the clinic will open up branches in the Middle East. “Customisation of the goodness of Ayurveda without diluting its principles is what we are aiming to streamline through the Dhathri ABS Clinics”, asserts Dr Sajikumar with a confident smile.

Dhathri always treaded a path of innovation and Dhathri ABS Clinic is just an extension of their quest for the same. “The ‘ABS” simply stands for Ayurveda, Beauty and Slimming and with this, the service division of Dhathri is also coming into existence”, says Dr Sajikumar. It can be looked upon also as an initiative to overcome the limitations of Ayurveda in treating lifestyle diseases which is growing at an alarming pace, he reiterates.

It’s true that the personal health scenario has changed a lot in Kerala owing to factors like unhealthy diet, stress and lifestyle disorders. And Dhathri ABS Clinic aims to address this area of concern by applying the curative principles of Ayurveda by maintaining a combination of Ayurveda’s cosmetic values in a relaxed environment with the support of Italian aesthetic technology by providing both internal and external applications.
