TTDC bags tourism award

CHENNAI: For the second consecutive year, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has bagged the National Tourism Award for ‘best publicity’ for tourist destinations in the State. The award is for the year 2007-2008 and was received by Tourism Secretary V. Irai Anbu and Tourism Commissioner M. Rajaram in New Delhi on Tuesday.

“All along, we have been addressing and highlighting fundamental issues such as tourist-friendly attitude (Virunthinar Potruthum), cleanliness and eco-friendliness among other things. The aggressive publicity and appropriate unique selling propositions have resulted in unprecedented tourist arrivals into Tamil Nadu,” said Mr. Rajaram.

During 2007, the State received 17.53 lakh foreign tourists and 5.06 crore domestic tourists, marking an all-time high growth rate of 29.2 per cent over the previous year, stated a TTDC release. — Special Correspondent
