Nagercoil: The Government has allotted Rs.1.13 crore for the implementation of a three-year project under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam for the renovation of panchayat union schools.
According to Collector Rajendra Kumar under these programme 31 panchayat union primary schools in different parts of the district and 21 panchayat union middle schools were selected and the renovation works were going on and it would be completed at the earliest.
In 2009-10 renovation works to the remaining panchayat primary and middle schools would be carried out under this programme. Renovation works, including white washing, painting to black board, re-laying of floor, carrying out maintenance work on the school roof and other maintenance activities at school buildings.
The district administration has constituted a committee consisting of the respective panchayat presidents, head-masters, Assistant Primary Educational Officer, panchayat union engineer, Block Development Officer and panchayat union councillor to select the respective works in each panchayat and send a detailed report to the district administration. All the works would be completed as per the norms, said the Collector.
