Javed on song for CE
KOCHI: P.A. Javed, a former Viva Kerala player, fired in three goals as Central Excise thrashed Malabar United 5-0 for its fourth straight win in the Cochin Premier League football championship at the Maharaja’s Stadium here on Wednesday evening. Javed’s goals came in the eighth, 28th and 81st minutes and Shafeeq scored the other two in the sixth and 82nd minutes.
For professional club Malabar United, which will play in the Second Division National League here next month, it was its first loss in five Group ‘B’ games. However, both Malabar United and Central Excise are assured of semifinal berths in the CPL.
Takes a break
Since Kochi is one of the three venues of the Second Division National League, the CPL takes a long break to prepare the Maharaja’s Stadium for the forthcoming event.
“We will resume the Cochin Premier League after the National League matches,” said C. C. Jacob, the Ernakulam DFA Secretary. — Principal Correspondent
