Gesture: Collector P. Muthuveeran handing over a cheque for Rs.50,000 to the family members of Mayi Irulan at Thoppupatti village near Andipatti on Wednesday. THENI: A special project for Erumalainaickenpatti, an acute drinking water starving village, will be implemented under the Swajaldhara Scheme immediately. The Vaigai River would be the water source for this project. Similarly, a special bus service would be introduced shortly between Devadhanapatti and Gandamanur passing through Melmangalam, Jayamangalam and Vaigai dam, to help rural people to reach the Theni Government Medical College Hospital in the morning for treatment, according to Collector P Muthuveeran. He was addressing a welfare aid distribution function held at Silvarpatti village in Periakulam union near here on Wednesday. Residents of Erumalainaickenpatti village informed that they could not get drinking water once in 10 days owing to poor water source. This scheme would solve their grievance immediately. Besides, additional water facility would also be created for Melmangalam, Bomminayakkanpatti and Nadupatti villages using Sothuparai dam was as water source. Similarly, people of several small hamlets and villages in Periakulam union had to take two buses to reach the government hospital for treatment. This service would start around 7.15 a.m. at Devadhanapatti and reach the hospital around 8.30 a.m. for treatment as out patient. Distributing land pattas to Narikuravas (gypsies), he said our next goal was to offer lands to transgender. Identification of a suitable site to accommodate them at one place was on, he added. Agriculture officials advised farmers to use organic manure and apply natural pest control measures as excess application of chemical fertilisers eroded agriculture lands. They also stressed need for soil testing and use of certified seeds for better yield. Later, hundreds of rural people took part in a free medical camp. Solatium to kin of borewell victimThe State government has granted a solatium of Rs.50,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the family members of Mayi Irulan (6), who fell into a borewell at Rajadhani and died. Collector P. Muthuveeran handed over the cheque to the family members at Thoppupatti village in Andipatti union here on Wednesday. Reacting to a plea made by Ettappan and Azhagammal, parents of the deceased, the Collector assured to take care of their another son Irulan, a Seventh Standard student. He ordered the officials to put him in a government hostel and extend all assistance to enable him to continue his studies. Earlier, the parents expressed their inability to spend money for his schooling. Mayi Irulan, six-year-old boy, fell into a 300-ft-deep dry borewell in a farm at Rajadhani and died. After a 29-hour-long operation, four Army personnel removed the body from the well on Monday.
