HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Industrial and technical consultancy organisation (APITCO) has emerged as ‘preferred bidder’ for strengthening access to Business Development Services by micro, small and medium enterprises in seven clusters across three sub-sectors. These are engineering (Coimbatore, Rourkela), floor coverings (Bhadohi, Panipat) and pharmaceuticals (Dehra Dun, Indore, Hyderabad). These assignments were awarded to APITCO vis-À-vis seven other short-listed competitors as part of the national competitive bidding process and will be funded by the World Bank, DFID, GTZ and KFW through the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) as part of the “small and medium enterprises financing and development project – BDS in 15 MSME Clusters”. To be implemented over three years, its objective is to strengthen BDS support systems in the clusters so that MSMEs can access appropriate technologies, skills, finances and market segments to be able to compete globally. The APITCO has assisted more than 30,000 micro entrepreneurs set up viable businesses and successfully run them across Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Orissa. Central approvalBased on the impact created by APITCO’s interventions, The Centre has approved development of common facilities centres in imitation jewellery, burnt lime and mango jelly (Bheemali) clusters at an aggregate outlay of Rs.2.7 crore. The organisation is preparing blue prints for the development of 11 MSME clusters – five in Andhra Pradesh and six in Orissa. The clusters in AP are granite processing (Chimakuthy), decorative slates (Markapur), limestone slab cutting and polishing (Tandur), cashew processing (Palasa) and edible oil processing (Adoni).
