City traffic police directive to agents selling pre-owned vehicles
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: The Traffic Police on Wednesday instructed agents selling pre-owned vehicles to verify and obtain address proof of persons purchasing vehicles from them.
Additional Commissioner (Traffic) N.V. Surendra Babu told them to verify ownership, of the person coming to them to sell a vehicle, with the RTA concerned. “They should ensure the vehicle being sold is not hypothecated to any finance firm or bank,” he said. Not following the procedures pertaining to transfer of ownership in case of pre-owned vehicles was creating problems in issuing of e-challans.
Plea to vehicle owners
In the light of increased thefts of vehicles, the Hyderabad police appealed to the people to install anti-theft alarm systems in the vehicles.
Park vehicles at places where security was available, Hyderabad Detective Department DCP R.S. Praveen Kumar said. He said management of valet parking system was also responsible if any vehicles were stolen from the valet parking premises.
Before handing over the vehicles to the drivers, make sure they were appointed by the management of the valet parking lot concerned.
