Fake currency notes: two persons held

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Two persons, who were allegedly making counterfeit currency notes of Rs. 500 denomination using an all-in-one printer, scanner and copying machine, were arrested by the police on Wednesday.

While the duo -Ch. Krishnaiah, 50, and A. Danam, 36, managed to circulate 20 fake notes by keeping them in the middle of original ones, 280 more having a face value of Rs. 1.4 lakh were seized from them.

The Commissioner’s Task Force DCP, A.S.C. Wesley, told reporters that A. Danam, driven by pecuniary problems, hatched the plan to make fake currency notes while Krishnaiah arranged money to buy the machine and other material hoping to make fast bucks.

The duo bought the machine and a paper cutting tool. Danam scanned and copied Rs. 500 note and then cut it to the size of the note on trial basis for nearly three weeks and finally succeeded in making notes looking like genuine. On a tip-off, the Task Force (East) team picked up the accused and handed over them to the Afzalgunj police for further investigation.
