VIZIANAGARAM: TDP Polit Bureau member P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, CPI MLC J. Wilson, TDP district president Y. Ramana Murty, CPI (M) district secretary M. Krishna Murty were among many leaders arrested here and elsewhere in the district when they picketed tehsildar offices as part of the State-wide ‘jail bharo’ programme of the Grand Alliance of the TDP, the TRS and the Left parties on Thursday.

The alliance leaders launched the programme demanding prosecution of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and his son Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for allegedly amassing wealth through irregular means.

The leaders, describing the government employees as stooges of the ruling party, raised slogans against the ruling party’s corruption and forcefully escorted tehsildar and deputy tehsildar of Vizianagaram out of their chambers.

Later, talking to newsmen, Mr. Ramana Murty (TDP) alleged that in the name of SEZs, projects and industries, lands of the poor were usurped. He demanded distribution of the same among the poor.

Money laundering

In Vizianagaram, he alleged that the ruling party leaders cheated people by issuing fake house-site pattas.

Mr. Krishna Murty (CPI-M) said that in spite of having proof of money laundering and investments by Chief Minister and his son in benami companies, no action was taken against them. Condemning the arrests of peaceful demonstrators, Mr. Murty called upon people to teach the Congress a lesson as it had cheated them on the pretext of development.

Mr. Wilson said not even 25 per cent of the houses out of the targeted 80-lakh in the State were completed. Demanding resignation of the Chief Minister, he alleged misuse of grants under Jalayagnam.
