Nedumbassery: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim will inaugurate the Aluva Plastic Consortium Private Limited, a cluster of 26 small scale plastic units set up in the industrial development area in Erumathala near Aluva, on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Karim said a common facilities centre has been set up in the cluster with a fund of Rs. 4.90 crore for which the Union government contributed Rs.315 lakh and the State Rs. 92 lakh with the cluster members contributing the rest.

He said Kerala was the leading State in the country in implementing the cluster approach in industrial development. So far, 54 clusters of industries have been identified. The Aluva plastic consortium comprises a tool room, design and planning department, assembly section, conventional machining section apart from an inspection unit. The consortium has also a plan to establish a plant for segregating plastic waste and to build a wind farm in Ramakkal Medu, Idukki, to cut power costs.
