Many interesting, innovative models displayed at the exhibition Members of the Department of Nanoscience give presentation
HI-TECH EYE: Students of GITAM Institute of Science explain the working of a robot spy camera model at a science expo in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. VISAKHAPATNAM: A car manoeuvred steadily along the bending curves of the road with the driver controlling it not from behind the wheels but by the help of a ‘C’ programme on the keyboard. A model depicted the widely accepted theory about the origin and evolution of the universe through the Big Bang model. Many such interesting and innovative models were displayed at the Science Expo organised at GITAM Institute of Science on the occasion of the 23rd National Science Day on Saturday. Students of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Electronics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science and Applied Mathematics participated in the three-day Science expo. Director of Naval Science and Technological Laboratory V. Bhujanga Rao who was the chief guest inaugurated the science expo. A model developed by students of environmental science envisaged the production of bio-diesel with leftover cooking oil. Members of the Department of Nanoscience gave a presentation of their research project sanctioned by the Department of Science Technology on developing an iron oxide and manganese oxide drug delivery system for detection of tumour cells and useful for treatment in cancer. The model of ‘intelligent room lighting system’ developed by students of Dept. of Computer Science depicted how the lights automatically switch off when there is no human presence in the room. Other technical and programmed models were displayed at the Computer Science department that included a robot spy camera controlled through a remote, making cartoon caricature through JAVA programming and computer assembling techniques.
