Coimbatore: Southern Railway authorities on Saturday engaged nearly 50 workers for replacing wooden sleepers in the Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) line that were destroyed in a forest fire on the Mettuppalayam - Coonoor section on Friday. Soaring mercury level led to the forest fire at various places in the Nilgiris district and on Friday wooden sleepers on two bridges, Kallar and Aderly railway stations were gutted. The authorities partially cancelled operation of Train No. 661/662 between Mettuppalayam and Coonoor on Saturday. — Staff Reporter
