CHANDIGARH: Construction work for the prestigious 1,200 MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project at Khedar in Hisar district is progressing steadily towards completion on schedule, said Haryana Power Generation Corporation Managing Director Sanjeev Kaushal here over the weekend. He disclosed that 63.89 per cent of the overall work had already been completed, adding, “The project has set a record by completing the hydraulic test of the boiler of Unit-1 in 24 months and 29 days which was the fastest hydraulic test in India.” Mr. Kaushal said the Land Acquisition Collector of Ambala had announced the award of land measuring 16.5 acres for the project’s railway siding recently and now the work for construction of the railway siding would progress at an accelerated pace to ensure timely availability of coal in sync with the synchronisation schedule of the generating units. The first unit of the power plant is to be commissioned before December this year and the second before March next year.
