campaign on: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit administering polio drops to a child at her residence in New Delhi on Saturday. NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit launched another round of the Pulse Polio campaign in the Capital on Saturday by administering anti-polio drops to a number of children at her 3 Motilal Nehru Place residence here. Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia was present at the function. The Chief Minister said Delhi has shown good results in eradication of polio and besides being a pioneer in the Pulse Polio programme it is also regarded as a role model. Asserting that Delhi would continue to strive hard to eradicate polio, Ms. Dikshit said only five polio cases were reported in the Capital last year. In all, 556 cases were reported last year in the country and during the current calendar year 13 cases have been reported of which one is from Delhi. The Chief Minister urged all parents to get children up to the age of five years immunised on Sunday. Prof. Walia said 8,000 polio booths would be in place on Sunday. Nearly 30,000 workers and employees of the Health Department would be deployed to ensure maximum reach of the programme from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Special stalls will also be set up at railway stations, inter-state bus terminals, major temples, Delhi Metro railway stations, Millennium Park and Delhi Zoo. Thereafter a week-long door-to-door survey will be conducted under which over 17,000 workers in 9,200 teams would visit different colonies and administer polio drops to children not covered by the programme on Sunday.
