KOCHI: The Ernakulam Town Central police on Saturday arrested a person on charge of snatching a gold chain weighing 10 sovereigns from an aged woman. The police case was that Narayanan, also known as Iruthu Narayanan, 55, of Karthikappally, Alappuzha, approached the house near Lakshmi Hospital here on Friday around noon under the guise of selling dung manure. On realising that the woman was alone at home, he made away after snatching the chain. A police team led by Central circle inspector G. Venu and sub-inspector K.V. Benny challenged the accused near the South Railway Station during a special patrol. The accused confessed to the crime on interrogation and the stolen gold chain was recovered. He is also accused in many other cases including burglary, robbery and theft. He was convicted in many cases and was released from prison two months ago.
