Returning officers appointed for 6 Assembly segments

Collector inspects election booths, checks Electronic Voting Machines

KRISHNAGIRI: Collector V.K. Shanmugam appointed returning officers for the six Assembly segments in the Krishnagiri Parliamentary Constituency.

They are R. Murugesan, District Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer - Uthangarai; M.L. Chinnasamy, District Backward Class Welfare Officer - Bargur; N. Sambasivam, Revenue Divisional Officer - Krishnagiri; M.L. Chinnasamy, Special Deputy Collector, Social Security Scheme (in-charge) - Veppanahalli; P. Rathinavel, Revenue Divisional Officer – Hosur and T. Sivaraj, Assistant Commissioner (in-charge for Excise) - Thali.

As per the orders of the Election Commission, these officers have been appointed to verify the polling booths in their respective constituencies. They have been authorised to recommend the nomenclature change and change of booths if the existing booths are located in a dilapidated or outdated building. They can also recommend to the Collector additional booths if the number of voters exceeds 1,350 in urban areas and 1,200 in rural areas, a release from the Collectorate says.

The Collector inspected the election booths, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Saint Anne Girls Higher Secondary School, R.C. Fathima Boys Higher Secondary School, Vivekananda School, Block Resource Centre, and Kattikanapalli.

Later, he visited the Revenue Divisional Office and inspected the Electronic Voting Machines to check whether they were kept in order with fool-proof security. The printing of photo identity cards for the new voters included in 2008-09 is over. The cards will be distributed to them by March end.
