REMEMBERING SALAR: MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi (right) unveils a portrait of Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi at the MIM headquarters in Hyderabad on Monday during the party’s 51st anniversary celebrations.

Hyderabad: The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) plans to improve its tally in the coming election. It hopes to increase its strength in the State legislature from the present five seats to seven and more.

This was stated by party president and MP Asaduddin Owaisi while addressing the 51st anniversary celebrations of Majlis here on Monday.

Rousing welcome

He was given a rousing welcome when he came in a motorcycle procession to the party office in Dar-us-Salam and unfurled the party flag. Other Majlis MLAs were also present on the occasion.

Mr. Asaduddin who took over the party reins after his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi’s death five months ago, urged the Majlis workers to remain united and work for improving the strength of the party in the ensuing election. “This is the best tribute we can pay to Salar and others who contributed to the success of the party,” Mr. Asaduddin said.

Dream

In the next 50 years, he said, it was his dream to make inroads into Telangana, Rayalaseema and take the party to other parts of the country.

He asked people to rally behind the Majlis as they could get their problems solved only when they have a strong voice in Assembly and Parliament.

Mr. Asaduddin was overwhelmed with emotion when he recalled the message of his father during the party’s golden jubilee celebrations last year.

He had left the party in such a strong position that no government could be formed in the State without the Majlis’ support.
